As part of Cormac’s role looking after Cornwall Council’s beaches, the Beach Ranger team have recently assisted with the applications for the Blue Flag and Seaside awards for 2024.
In order to be granted a Blue Flag or Seaside award, the sites have to be compliant with the criteria throughout the season. Last week, it was announced that seven Cornwall Council managed beaches, all of which Cormac work with, have won both the Blue Flag and Seaside award status for 2024.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said: “These awards are a credit to the collective efforts of beach managers, volunteers, residents and businesses who have worked tirelessly to maintain, protect and improve some of our best-loved and most popular beaches and we’d like to take this moment to recognise and applaud them. Visitors to a beach flying a Blue Flag can be assured the beach will be clean, safe and meet the highest environmental standards, as well as international bathing water quality standards.”
Cormac works around the year with partners, community groups and beach tenants to deliver environmental initiatives on the sites which have a Blue Flag award. Last week, Sue Nicholls, Senior Beach Officer for Cormac, took part in a Sand Safe Event on Gyllyngvase beach in Falmouth in conjunction with Falmouth Town Council. The event aimed to engage with communities, educate about the dog restrictions, tides, beach rules and celebrate the Blue Flag status news for the Falmouth beaches.
Well done to our Beach Ranger team for the part you’ve played to keep these beaches safe and clean for communities, contributing to the award status!
