Driving sustainability forward: Cormac's Scorrier team trials electric vans

The drive for sustainability and operational efficiency is gaining pace at Scorrier.

Ross Strick, Area Manager for Cormac Highway Operations, has recently launched a six-month trial to explore the use of electric vehicles (EVs) by working supervisors, and just two months in, the results are already encouraging.

After analysing fuel costs across the fleet, Ross identified a clear opportunity to transition to electric vans. With the potential for long-term savings and significant environmental benefits, the case for change was compelling and inline with our company-wide commitment to championing sustainability where possible.

With collective support from colleagues, the trial successfully launched with two electric vans. While there were initial concerns about range, each vehicle can travel up to 270 miles on a single charge, offering more than enough mileage for daily operations.

Financially, the leasing costs for the EVs are comparable to the current fleet, and the minimal investment of charging infrastructure positions the team to significantly reduce carbon emissions while saving money.

Looking ahead, Ross shared: "I'm exploring the installation of an additional charger next year, which would enable the addition of two more EVs, ultimately making the Scorrier-based supervision team the greenest in the company."

We look forward to sharing future updates as the trial continues.
