Going above and beyond to keep our children safe - thank you

We would like to take the opportunity to recognise and thank two of our School Crossing Patrollers, Katrina Day and Lizzy Perry, who have recently demonstrated exceptional dedication, bravery and professionalism while carrying out their roles in our communities.

In December, following reports of a potential safety concern near a Torpoint school, it was closed early. Although the situation was later confirmed to be harmless, it was understandably unsettling at the time as the police, including dog units and police helicopter, attended the scene. Despite this, Katrina chose to remain on duty to ensure all children were able to leave the area and return home safely. Her actions during a difficult situation showcase her clear commitment to safeguarding the children in her care.

In a separate incident in Redruth, Lizzy demonstrated remarkable quick thinking and bravery when a very young child of approximately two years old began to enter the road. At the same time, a vehicle failed to stop while driving through the school crossing patrol site. Acting instinctively, Lizzy intervened and safely pulled the child out of harm's way, preventing what could have been a very serious incident. Her swift actions and presence of mind ensured the child was unharmed.

Both of these incidents are powerful examples of the vital role our School Crossing Patrollers play every single day. Their dedication, vigilance and commitment to keeping families and children safe does not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for the care they provide in our communities.

A heartfelt thank you to both patrollers for truly going above and beyond!

Working together to improve the lives of people in our communities.
