A huge thank you to our Cormac highways colleagues who supported the emergency response following the discovery of an unexploded Second World War bomb near Falmouth Docks recently.
The incident prompted a major multi-agency operation, with hundreds of residents evacuated while specialist military teams worked to make the WW2 device safe. Our teams responded quickly, implementing road closures and traffic management measures at short notice and working closely with partner agencies to maintain safe access routes and support the evacuation process.
This was very much a whole-team effort, with colleagues from across the service coming together to deliver a coordinated highways response throughout the three-day operation. In particular, a dedicated team of highway operatives worked long hours in shifts, manning road closures and cordons day and night, often at short notice and under challenging circumstances, to help keep residents, visitors and emergency responders safe.
A special thank you goes to Jamie Bills, Kane Isaacs, Gary Morgan, Tom Morgan, Nathan Jeffreys, James Isaacs, Josh Morcom, Kyle Hawke, Danny Anderson, Dave Hunt, George Franks, Andy Rowe, Paul Keverne, Jack Hunt, John Davies, Jamie Wilson, John Courage, Robbie Coombe, Gary Burnette and Idris Safi. Their commitment, professionalism and willingness to step up over the course of the incident were instrumental to the success of the operation.
Particular thanks also go to Viv Bidgood for leading and coordinating the highways response, and to Reuven Hampshire for undertaking the Duty Steward role and providing tireless support throughout the incident.
The professionalism, dedication and collaborative approach shown by everyone involved made a real difference during a challenging and fast-moving situation. Thank you all for your hard work and commitment in helping to keep local communities safe.
