Our Urban Green Shoots team have had the pleasure of working with Budding Nature CIC this year. Budding Nature is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic group of ecologists dedicated to educating adults and children in natural history and environmental education.
From ‘Introduction to Botany’ to ‘Wildlife Crime Scenes’, we have been able to offer a broad range of workshops and children’s activities to the wider public with the aim to encourage people outside and into their local ‘nature spots’. This in turn may help to improve the health and wellbeing of the individual and maybe spark a new passion that had been hiding among the hedgerows!
One of the many workshops that Budding Nature offer is their ‘Introduction to Botany’. Derek and Sally have created an inclusive one-day course aiming to educate beginners and intermediate nature lovers alike.
After a presentation explaining the morphology of some of our most common plant families, participants get to use their knowledge to identify 32 plant specimens to family level, all with the help of Derek and Sally of course! This is followed by ‘field studies’ giving participants the chance to wander while wondering about their local plant life.
Urban Green Shoots is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
