Brewery volunteers clear Carrickowel Point

A crack team of volunteers from the accounts department at St Austell Brewery descended on Cornwall Council’s Countryside site at Carrickowel Point, St Austell this month. This one-off session was organised through the Cormac Volunteer Scheme and the committed but small group of regular volunteers (the “diggers and doers”) were absolutely delighted to take advantage of the additional muscle power.

Together two areas were cleared of mats of brambles and bracken, leaving space and light for the wildflowers which are already present in the seedbed to come through. One of the volunteers who lives locally was delighted to discover the site as he had no prior knowledge, and has said that he will definitely be returning with his children to help out again.

Craig Boddy from St Austell Brewery said:

“A small group from the St Austell Brewery Finance team thoroughly enjoyed breaking away from their offices and laptops for a day of manual labour, fresh air and great views. They were well looked after by the Cormac team and ended the day able to admire their efforts. Highly recommend contacting Rebecca and the Cormac team for anyone else looking to have some time away from the norm!”
