Love Parks Week happened recently, and we’re shining a spotlight on some of Cornwall’s fantastic parks that are cared for by dedicated volunteers, including Gwavas Park in Newlyn, Lostwithiel Street Gardens in Fowey, and Thanckes Park in Torpoint.
Public parks are much more than places to enjoy the outdoors. They make an important contribution to both community wellbeing and nature recovery, providing welcoming green spaces where people can relax, exercise, spend time with friends and family, and connect with nature.
Parks also play a vital role in supporting wildlife. In urban and built-up areas, they can act as important stepping stones between habitats, helping animals, birds and insects move more easily through the landscape in search of food, water and shelter. These connections are essential for supporting biodiversity and helping nature recover and thrive across Cornwall.
The care and dedication of local volunteers help ensure these spaces remain attractive, accessible and beneficial for both people and wildlife.
Through regular maintenance, planting, conservation work and community activities, volunteers make a significant contribution to the long-term health of these valued green spaces.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who gives their time to help care for Cornwall’s parks. Your hard work, commitment and enthusiasm ensure these spaces continue to be enjoyed by residents, visitors and wildlife alike.
