Transforming recovery and building confidence: the Echo Centre effect

1

At the Echo Centre in Liskeard, incredible things are happening every week.

Through the Echo Rehabilitation Project, people living with stroke and other neurological conditions are being supported to rebuild not only their physical abilities, but also their confidence, independence and overall wellbeing.

Delivered through a pioneering partnership between Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Corserv Care, the programme provides a unique multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation, helping people take positive steps forward in their recovery journey.

Participants attend weekly five-hour group sessions over a 12-week period, where they benefit from a wide range of evidence-based rehabilitation activities. Under the guidance of support workers and therapy teams, individuals work towards personal goals through physical, cognitive and educational activities tailored to their needs.

But the programme's impact extends far beyond rehabilitation alone.

A key strength at Echo is the supportive community that participants build together. Through peer support and shared experiences, individuals gain encouragement from others facing similar challenges, helping to reduce isolation, boost self-belief and create lasting social connections.

For many, the programme becomes a turning point in their recovery journey, providing the confidence and skills needed to engage more fully with their communities, access ongoing support and continue making progress long after the programme has ended.

Alison Waller, Corserv Care Managing Director, said:

“I had the pleasure of visiting the Echo Centre as the team had just completed the final day of a 12-week reablement programme, and it was wonderful to see first-hand the positive impact the service is having. One particular moment that stayed with me was meeting a client I had first met around a year ago. Seeing the progress they had made, not just physically but in confidence and wellbeing, was genuinely moving. It served as a powerful reminder of why the work we do matters so much.”

The collaborative approach between health and social care teams ensures participants receive holistic support that looks beyond immediate rehabilitation needs, empowering them to take greater control of their wellbeing and future.

The success of the Echo Rehabilitation Project is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when organisations work together with a shared focus on improving lives. Every week, staff and participants demonstrate the power of rehabilitation, resilience and community, creating outcomes that are truly life-changing.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in delivering this outstanding programme and supporting individuals to achieve their goals, regain confidence and live more independently.
