Celebrating Learning Disability Week

As part of celebrating Learning Disability Week recently (15 - 21 June), staff from Corserv Care's Blantyre Day Centre supported individuals to attend an event organised by Mencap called ‘Move and Make Friends’ at St. Austell Leisure Centre.

The lively event included table tennis games, health related workshops, a chance to meet new friends, plus opportunities to take up swimming and the gym.

Individuals who attend Blantyre already enjoy football, dance, table tennis, cricket and walking groups through our links with Mencap and Our Active Community, helping them to live healthier, happier lives.

Feedback from the day was incredibly positive, and Charlie, excited at the prospect of using the gym independently, said he would like to: "get a six-pack." While Gemma said she: "enjoyed it, especially the table tennis and healthy eating workshop and seeing friends from other centres." And Peter said he: “liked the health and wellbeing workshop.”

Events like these remind us of the importance of ensuring people with learning disabilities are seen, heard, and valued in our communities.

A brilliant day was had by all!
