It was great to see proactive environmental stewardship in action on the White River, St Austell.

While carrying out maintenance works Cian (Cormac Environment) spotted Demoiselle dragonflies emerging from submerged aquatic plants - a key moment in their lifecycle and an important indicator of river health.

Recognising the significance of this, Cian immediately paused works and shared his observations and recommendations.

Rob, our EA Client Representative, quickly responded, and together with Cian they made the decision to stand down operations in that area and relocate to an alternative site, allowing the dragonfly larvae the time and space needed to emerge successfully. Ryan, our assistant Natural Environment Officer, will be visiting the location to assess the optimum time to undertake these essential flood prevention vegetation clearance works, whilst protecting the natural biodiversity within these important river systems.

Doing the right thing for biodiversity, together

A brilliant team effort that protected a sensitive ecological event while showcasing strong environmental awareness on site. Through clear communication and collaboration, the project team delivered a great outcome for biodiversity. It is an excellent example of people working together to do the right thing.

Well done to everyone involved!
