A new timber bridge has been successfully installed on a public footpath at Pengelly, creating an important new link between the parishes of Grampound with Creed and St Ewe.

Delivered by the Cormac Environment Team in partnership with the Cormac Countryside Team, this fantastic project was made possible through true community collaboration. The Grampound with Creed Countryside Access Volunteer Group, supported by the Cormac Engagement Team, played a vital role throughout, working closely with the landowner and helping bring the project to life.

To mark the occasion, an opening ceremony was held at the site, bringing together parish councillors from both Grampound with Creed and St Ewe. A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated not only the completion of the bridge but also the strengthened connection between the two neighbouring communities. The bridge has already been warmly welcomed by local path users.

One resident shared:

"Please convey my thanks to all those involved with this wonderful bridge. It has certainly been worth waiting for and Rodney and I will make good use of it! Many thanks to you and your team."

Many local walkers will recognise Rodney, the friendly Labrador, featured in the photos.

The significance of the bridge was beautifully captured by Kay Chapman, Chair of the Volunteer Group, who wrote a poem for the occasion. An excerpt reads:

"A span of fresh and pale-hewn oak now joins our parish lands, where Grampound meets St Ewe and autumn gold expands.

Where separate paths were walked for years, the hands of neighbours meet; a shared timber bridge appears to guide their mingling feet.

They call this crossing Pengelly Bridge, built strong across the water, to bind our two communities, every son and every daughter."

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, expertise and support to make this project a success. Pengelly Bridge will help residents and visitors enjoy the countryside and connect with neighbouring communities for years to come.
