We are proud to share that Andy James, Business Director - Cornwall Highways, has been selected to receive a Highways Champions Medal, after leading the response to one of the most challenging weather events Cornwall has faced in decades.
Following Storm Goretti's devastating impact on Cornwall in January 2026, Andy led the highways response, coordinating resources, prioritising critical routes and supporting the safe deployment of hundreds of frontline colleagues.
With winds reaching 100mph, the storm caused widespread disruption and thousands of safety defects across Cornwall's highway network and public open spaces. Andy would be the first to say this recognition belongs to the whole team.
The award reflects the hard work, resilience and commitment shown by Cormac's operational teams during what many described as a once-in-a-career weather event.
We're looking forward to the Highways Champions Awards in November where Andy will be presented with his medal. This award recognises the dedication, commitment and hard work shown by our teams across Cornwall before, during and after the storm.
