A few weeks ago, we shared the news that Cormac had been shortlisted in two categories at the Department for Transport (DfT) Special Recognition Awards.

Now we have even more reason to celebrate, with a national award win and recognition for the work we are doing to develop future talent.

At the awards ceremony, held as part of the Strictly Highways Conference on 7 October, Christian Maude was named Highways Apprentice of the Year. The award recognised his outstanding contribution to Cornwall's emergency response during Storm Goretti, when he demonstrated exceptional leadership, maturity and professionalism.

Judges praised Christian’s ability to lead under pressure, coordinate complex operations and make critical decisions during one of the most challenging weather events to affect Cornwall in decades.

Cormac was also Highly Commended in the Employer Initiative of the Year category for the Cormac Academy Programme, recognising the team's work to attract, support and develop the next generation of highways professionals.

Both achievements are a real credit to our people. They highlight the contribution of the many colleagues who share their knowledge, encourage others and help people develop their careers.

A special mention goes to everyone at our Notter Bridge Training Centre and to the many colleagues across Cormac who help make the Academy Programme a success. From delivering training to mentoring, coaching and supporting participants, their time, knowledge and dedication make a real difference.

A big thank you also goes to Will Glassup and Andy Wallis, who prepared and submitted our award applications, helping to secure national recognition for the fantastic work taking place across the business.

A huge congratulations to Christian and everyone involved in the Academy Programme, and a heartfelt thank you to all the colleagues who contributed to this success.

These achievements reflect the talent, dedication and teamwork across Cormac, and show what we can achieve when we support each other to succeed. It’s something we can all be proud of.
